We believe that education is about more than just lessons in the classroom — it’s about helping children grow in confidence, curiosity, and character. Our school is a place where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.
To be a Normie is something special. It means you belong with us. It means that you’re on our team and we’re on yours. It means being part of a caring school where children are encouraged to be themselves, try new things, and face challenges with courage. We teach our pupils that while they can’t always choose what happens, they can choose how they respond — and that their choices help shape who they become.
Our school values guide everything we do:
Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Ready.
These simple principles help our children build positive relationships, make good decisions, and be prepared for whatever comes next.
At Norman Street, we don’t just ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” We ask, “Who do you want to be?” Every child’s answer is different, and we’re committed to helping them find their path.
We hope our website gives you a feel for life at Norman Street Primary School. If you’d like to know more or arrange a visit, please contact us at office@normanst.cumbria.sch.uk. We’d be delighted to welcome you and share what makes our school a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Our bricks and mortar root us in the historic city of Carlisle, but our children and our people are Normies- a successful and vibrant community. Proud, outward looking and committed to the achievement and inclusion of all.
We believe that we, The Norman Street community is a truly wonderful mix of all things. We seek to serve individual needs through inclusion first, high ambition and instilling a love of learning for all.
There is an ambition for everyone at Norman Street. We work with creativity and diligence with a relentless focus on evaluating and learning from best practice to ensure that the children in our school access a thoughtful curriculum. We create school systems that work together and support who we are and why we are here. We encourage staff to have agency and ownership over their own learning and development; but moreover, we are kind and supportive of each other. We are a together school, where everybody has the chance to be successful; nurtured to be the best they can be.
You will see those connected to our school interested in learning and making progress, they show kindness and humility with each other when doing so. You will see children demonstrating a real interest for life and successful across a range of disciplines. Children leaving our school with the foundations for adulthood, ready to enter society as people you would want to know and work alongside.
2025/26ELECTIONS COMING SOON!!
You don’t have to do anything special to join the PTA, every family and parent is automatically member! If you want to get involved with fund raising events at the school then please just register interest by talking to one of the committee members or speaking to our Parent Liaison, Bev Ramshaw:
We are have a regular core of parents who help keep things ticking over by planning the events for the year and liaising with the school to ensure our school receives the funds for the things they need. However, we are always looking for more!
It’s this close working relationship with parents and teachers alike that provides a great way to get to know more people at your children’s school and to really get involved with events that we know the children love and really benefit from. Whilst it might feel a little daunting the first time you attend a meeting or offer to help at an event, we promise that you will always be welcomed.
The monies raised by our events are spent on a range of ‘extras’ for the children; from the buses to music events, exciting Christmas events or specialist visitors.
It’s easy to put off helping out on the PTA as with young children, time is short and life is full. We would love for you to be involved and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Please contact the school for more details.
