At Norman Street Primary School, our governing body plays a vital strategic role in shaping the direction of our school. As a maintained primary school, we are committed to upholding our vision and values – rooted in our motto, “Kind. Brave. Fair. That’s the Normie Way.” – across everything our governors do.
Governance at Norman Street is a strategic role, not an operational one – our governors do not run the school day to day, but they do hold real responsibility for its direction and success. Our governing body’s core responsibilities are to:
Governors work closely with the school’s leadership team to drive continuous improvement and secure the best possible outcomes for our pupils, always guided by our vision and lived out through our motto.
The Full Governing Body (FGB) meets regularly throughout the year, bringing all governors together to consider the school’s overall strategic direction, review performance, and ratify key decisions.
To manage the detail of school governance effectively, our governing body is also divided into two sub-committees – Curriculum and Resources. Each committee focuses on its own area, but governors are encouraged to build a broad understanding of the whole school by attending meetings and monitoring different aspects of school life. From time to time, our Curriculum and Resources committees also come together for joint committee meetings, where issues that cut across both remits – such as inclusion, staffing, or the impact of resourcing decisions on the curriculum – can be considered together.
In addition to their committee work, our governors play a vital role in safeguarding and the Prevent agenda, helping to ensure that Norman Street remains a safe, inclusive environment where every child can be Kind, Brave and Fair.
The Chair of our Governing Body is Rev’d Keith Teasdale, and we currently have nine members with full voting rights.
