At Norman Street, children and their families are proud to belong to our school community. Our staff know every child and every family well, and that sense of belonging is what allows us to remove barriers so children want to be here, every day. Because our children trust the adults around them, they feel confident to share their worries, knowing we will listen and put things right quickly. This is the heart of the Normie Way: no child ever has to feel like they don’t belong.
Being a Normie means having the chance to explore the world beyond the classroom. Our children enjoy a rich range of trips, visits and extra-curricular experiences that build on what they are learning in school. They also take real pride in contributing to their wider community — from our school council improving playtime resources, to our children’s regular visits to a local care home. These experiences help every child see their place, not just in our school, but in the world around them.
From our very youngest children in Reception right through to Year 6, our Normies understand what is expected of them — to be ready, safe and respectful in everything they do. When children model these values, we celebrate it, helping them understand the difference their behaviour makes to others. This is why our children engage so well in their learning, and why they achieve so well too.
Our curriculum is carefully designed, year on year, to give every Normie the knowledge and skills they need to thrive. This thoughtful planning means our staff can focus on delivering excellent teaching, especially in reading, where instilling both skill and a genuine love of books is a real priority for us.
Supporting children with additional needs is something we do particularly well. We identify needs quickly, and we build strong, trusting relationships with families and outside agencies so that every child gets the right support at the right time — because every Normie matters, and every Normie deserves to succeed.
Being a Normie is something to be proud of. We want every child to leave us with a strong sense of who they are, and a real understanding and appreciation of the vibrant, diverse community they are growing up in. Belonging to Norman Street means belonging to something bigger than the classroom.
We believe in the endless possibilities ahead for our children, and we work hard every day to give them a calm, respectful place to learn, grow and become the confident, thriving citizens we know they can be.
